Oh Mudroom, You are so Much More than Mud

We don’t know which is cuter, the chevron tile in this mudroom or little Lola taking a nap.  We’ll go with both.

Is your mudroom a little neglected? tired? dated? Perhaps we’re projecting but giving your mudroom a little love will go a looong way.

It’s usually the first room people see and sets the style tone for the rest of your house.

We’ve put together an easy step-by-step mudroom update cheat sheet to help you bring some love (and style) to this otherwise often neglected room.

#1 Swap out those old, dated mudroom tiles!

Consider using a fun, modern pattern with a family friendly durable tile.  Some beautiful choices include, slate, porcelain “wood” tile, and brick.

#2 Add beadboard to your mudroom walls

Adding beadboard to the walls create texture and add a nice contrast to the painted wall above.

You can even paint your beadboard a complimentary color to spice up your mudroom a bit.

#3 Use a funky, cool wallpaper in the mudroom

Wallpaper is known for always making a great statement.

Commitment phobe?

No worries, small spaces like a mudroom are perfect places to experiment with wallpaper.

#4 Consider adding some pretty hooks on the mudroom walls

Hang hooks high for the adults in the family and low for the kiddos. This will add interest at different heights.

#5 Consider swapping out an old mudroom ceiling light for a fresh new one

A beautiful ceiling light can go a long way, especially in a small space.

#6 Install a mudroom bench

This can be a simple solution for the awkward “taking of your boots stumble” that so many of us experience.

A bench can also offer a spot to put your car keys or dog biscuits (Lola’s preference).

There it is!  We hope our cheat sheet helps bring a little respect (and style) to the hardworking and often forgotten mudroom.
